GUIDED WALK: FROM THE GATE OF SAN NICCOLO ‘TO THE BARDINI GARDEN

A guided tour of Florence, between San Niccolò and the Bardini Garden. A walk accompanied by an expert local guide, to discover the ancient fortifications and one of the most elegant gardens in the city.

We will walk through the district of San Niccolò, where it is possible to see one of the best preserved parts of the ancient Florentine city walls. In this area stands the gate of San Niccolò, very important because it is the only true survivor of the medieval walls.

During the guided walk we will discover the scenic Lungarno Serristori where we will observe rich palaces, linked to the most influential personalities of the city.

This area of ​​Florence is full of gardens. We will visit the Bardini Garden, the result of the evolution of the “walled gardens” that since the thirteenth century stood behind the buildings in the area. Over the centuries, the gardens have grown, occupying the part of the hill that reaches the San Giorgio coast, until it becomes a park that offers spectacular views over the city.

GUIDED TOUR OF THE BARDINI GARDEN

The Bardini Garden is an uncontaminated green space in the heart of the city. Four hectares of woods, flowers and orchards surrounded by medieval walls. Not only nature, but also a place of great historical and architectural importance.

The Garden of Villa Bardini owes its name to the authoritative antiquarian Stefano Bardini. The collector, also known as “the prince of antique dealers”, bequeathed his collections and properties to the city of Florence.

Thanks to an accurate restoration, today it is possible to grasp the subdivision into 3 large areas, different in style and age, evidence of the taste and philosophies of thought of the various owners.

1. one part is occupied by the Italian garden, characterized by a splendid Baroque staircase;
2. a rare example of an Anglo-Chinese wood with exotic elements,
3. the agricultural park area, with orchard and wisteria pergola (the panorama of the city is famous and evocative, especially during the flowering period).

At the end of the walk it is possible to stop at the belvedere loggia for a snack or a drink while enjoying a breathtaking view of the city.
